Exceptional Strength and Corrosion Resistance for Extreme Downhole Drilling Environments
The harsh environments of the downhole drilling environment in land-based energy exploration require machinery and components with exceptionally high resistance to corrosive elements.
Downhole drilling environments are often space constrained - making Belden u-joints superior strength-to-diameter ratio extremely valuable in Oil & Gas exploration and production in downhole applications that require universal joints.
Belden Universal Joints are widely used in downhole motors, mud motors, and rotary steerable systems (RSS) throughout the Oil & Gas industry. Directional drilling technology relies on the Belden u-joint's toughness, compact dimensions, and wide array of available materials for the most challenging drilling environments. The precision of Belden's universal joints enables a high level of positional accuracy for mud motor and RSS u joint applications.
Belden also offers stainless steel universal joints and telescoping driveshafts for such operating conditions. The yokes, pins and blocks of the universal joints are made of highly corrosion resistant 316L stainless steel. To prevent galling and improve the joints’ friction properties, pins, blocks and the yokes’ contact surfaces can be coated with layers of PTFE or MoS2. Additional protection against dirt and debris can be added by protective boots which can be also packed with specialty grease.
